begins, as the world awakens from winter. The
days lengthen, the clocks go forward, and it’s
time to start sowing and planting in earnest.
Whether you’re working on an allotment or in
your garden, March is a crucial time to prepare
for the growing season ahead.
Who Are the National Allotment Society?
Founded in the early 20th century, The
National Allotment Society (NAS) is the leading
representative body for UK allotment holders,
with over 130,000 members. Our mission is to
protect, promote, and preserve allotments for
future generations.
We work with allotment sites, associations,
councils, and individual plot holders, offering
advice on everything from site management and
tenancy agreements to environmental concerns
and fundraising. We also collaborate with the
Government, NGOs, charities, and developers to
create and preserve sustainable growing spaces.
Allotments are more than just a place to
grow food—they are valuable community assets
that boost health and wellbeing, create green
corridors, and support biodiversity.
