"Amazing!" Was the word used by Cadet Sergeant Tom Ely, when he was informed at Scunthorpe Detachment that he was going to be the very first Humberside and South Yorkshire cadet to be appointed as Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet for Lincolnshire.
Due to geographical boundaries of E Company being in Lincolnshire, getting a cadet named as the Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet for Lincolnshire is an enormous achievement.
On 10 October 2019, at a special ceremony held at Sobraon Barracks, Lincoln alongside his counter- parts from the RAF Air Cadets, Sea Cadets and the Combined Cadet Force, Cdt Sergeant Ely received his badge and certificate from Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Lincolnshire, Mr Toby Dennis.
During the ceremony, Maj John Lomas, Officer Commanding E Company, read out the citation explaining the reasons why Sergeant Ely was selected for the appointment to invited guests, which

included local dignitaries, family members and the Honorary Colonel, Colonel Simon Banks-Cooper. As Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant's Cadet, Cdt Sergeant Ely will represent the Cadet Forces and
County to the Royal Family and the Lord-Lieutenant, assisting the Lord Lieutenant to carry out his duties and this honour is one of the highest achievements in the Cadet Forces.
Colonel Banks-Cooper said: “To become a Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet is a significant achievement
and my wholehearted congratulations go to Cadet Sergeant Ely. This particular appointment is also an important occasion for E Company and the County as this is the first time in many years that there has been a dedicated appointment for Northern Lincoln- shire, and therefore I was especially pleased to be present”.
