Resurfacing of Main Access Road and Car Park/BBQ Area
Following works carried out by Hanson in late 2021 at Maesycoaed Allotments (see Issue 1 2022,
page 59), further weathering, with increased traffic flow, was having a significant effect on the remaining access road and car park. This in turn was having an impact on the ability of our members to access their gardens by car, mobility scooter, and even on foot. This
was further exacerbated by the successful funding application for a wildlife garden project adjacent to the car park (see Issue 3 2024, pages 38-39) by Keep Wales Tidy.
I contacted Heidelberg Materials by email in May 2024, and again received a quick response from both Julian Radcliffe (aggregates) and Anthony Davies (contracting) to discuss the possible project. A site visit was arranged 2 days later, and I met with Mr Tommy Morgan (site manager)
to discuss the project. Following
this meeting,Tommy gave me a few pointers for some preparation work and seemed very positive that the works could be carried out.
On Wednesday the 7th August, Mr Andrew Roberts (site manager) attended our site and marked up the areas for resurfacing for the following day.The team arrived earlyThursday morning and completed all works
by late afternoon in poor weather conditions.
Material used for this resurfacing works was 30 ton of AC 10mm close graded surface course hardstone.
It goes without saying that I, along with the membership and their families, am over the moon with the works carried out and the swiftness of the overall project from start
to finish.Thank you to Heidelberg Materials and all the support teams. A.J. House,Treasurer of Maesycoed Allotments
