Northern Branch championships 2015
Held in conjunction with the North of England Society Autumn Flower Show
The 2015 Northern Branch Championships were held at the Harrogate Show Ground
on the 18 to 20 September. Like the National held two weeks before at Dundee the weather over the weekend was kind
to the exhibitors and the public attending the show. A total of 77 exhibitors entered the championships with 69 exhibiting, and some 230 dishes benched. There were some excellent vegetables on show from some of the best vegetable growers in the

country. Members came from Scotland, Wales, South of England, the Midlands and one member had travelled all the way from Guernsey. This year also saw a number of new members from the north east and Leeds area exhibiting at Harrogate for the rst time.
The championships were held this year in a marquee as the hall which we normally use was occupied by others while hall 1
is knocked down and a new single arch building is erected in time for next year’s show. The marquee that we used was
a little bit cool in the mornings but we
gardeners are a hardy lot. The light level was much higher than in hall 2 which aided the judging, and the position of the marquee meant that exhibitors could park their vehicles closer to the show than normal.
The N V S silver medal was won by
Peter Clark from Yarm for his collection of
6 vegetables I of each kind. The Cockney Bowl for most points in the championship went to one of the Scottish exhibitors Ian Stocks. Ian for a number of years has been well known for long carrots and parsnips but is now picking up cards across the board
