SOUTH & WEST YORKSHIRE WING CADETS EXCEL AT THE INTER SERVICE CADET RIFLE MEETING
Wing cadets achieved Gold Shot Badges along with placing in the top 75 Cadets from across all services at a national shooting competition. A number also won medals in the individual matches.
The recent Inter Service Cadet Rifle Meeting (ISCRM) saw an outstanding performance by twelve cadets from across the Wing, marking a significant achievement! The ISCRM is a prestigious national competition involving the L81 Target Rifle, with participation from the Royal Air Force Air Cadets (RAFAC), Army Cadets, and Sea Cadets. This year, over 70 teams and a total of 360 competitors from across the UK showcased their marksmanship in individual and team matches at ranges of 300 yards, 500 yards, and 600 yards.
The cadets were divided into three teams, each coached by experienced staff members and all 12 cadets achieved the prestigious Gold Shot badge on the L81 Target Rifle. Furthermore, four cadets—Flight Sergeants Ellie Woodhead and Tomasz Wallace, Sergeants Ruby Barrett and Frederick Tuffrey— earned the esteemed Cadet 100 badge. This badge was awarded to the top 75 competitors across all cadet forces and is the highest graded shooting badge available.
FS Woodhead and Sgt Barrett excelled further, placing 4th and 11th overall in the grand aggregate and were in the top 10 from within the RAFAC. Their performance earned them selection to represent the RAFAC in the Inter Services Final, where they contributed to a victorious result against the Army Cadet Force and Sea Cadets. This marked the first time the Wing had cadets compete in this final, a noteworthy accomplishment.
Additional accolades were awarded during the event:
• Sgt Barrett received a bronze medal in the 300-yard individual match.
The cadets' success is a testament to the months of rigorous preparation and training
• FS Woodhead earned a silver medal in the Patriotic Shield 300 yards.
• Sgt Tuffrey secured a bronze medal in the Patriotic Shield 300 yards.
• FS Woodhead was awarded a bronze medal for placing 3rd overall among the air cadets.
The cadets' success is a testament to the months of rigorous preparation and training, including initial weapons training and live firing marksmanship sessions. The Wing extends heartfelt congratulations to all the cadets and a profound thank you to the dedicated staff who made this event possible.
Wing Commander Katherine Barton commented “These exceptional results at the Inter Service Cadet Rifle Meeting reflect the perseverance, skill, and
hard work of our cadets and their coaches. Achieving the Gold Shot badge and having four cadets earn the Cadet 100 badge is a testament to their commitment and the high standards we strive for within the Wing. We are incredibly proud of their accomplishments
and look forward to seeing their continued success
in future competitions. My thanks go Flt Lt Adam Sutcliffe and his team for arranging our participation in the competition - which is a first for the Wing in many years - and also the training leading up to the event.”
