ince Oct 11, the ASPT has
undergone a signiicant
change with regards to the
equipment that is now in Wand
Tetley Gymnasium and Square.
The evolution of BeaverFit has
helped enhance the facilities within
the ASPT, and has assisted with
the introduction of the CrossFit (CF)
modality of training.
Sgt (SI) Gibbs and myself discussed
the feasibility of hosting and running
a Forces CF competition here at
the ASPT [CF Fox Lines]. In CF,
the term Throwdown means to
compete and from a discussion, the
Forces Throwdown (FTD) concept
was born.
On the 24 Oct 12, the irst FTD
took place at CF Fox Lines. There
were 21 teams that entered from
across all 3 services. There were
3 extremely tough Workouts of the
Day (WODs), which saw the Royal
Navy triumph overall and take the
top 3 places.
The next FTD took place on 24
Apr 13, where there were over 30
team entries. The ASPT achieved
a credible 2nd place behind HMS
Temerair with CTCRM coming 3rd .

n Wednesday 1st May 2013 two teams from the ASPT day of the competition! Training had been successful, zeroing
entered the ITG (SAAM) shooting competition. After only weapons, adopting the correct marksmanship principles and
one day preparation at the ranges the week prior, the B
coaching from Sgt Mullen (MPGS). The A and B teams were ready
team felt very optimistic on the outcome of the inal result on the
to compete. There were four different shoots throughout the day,
the Defence Assessment shoot, the Urban Contact Assessment,
the moving Target shoot and the falling plate.
Shooting started early morning with rounds rapidly iring down the
range as accurately as possible; knowing that the B team had
limited time to prepare the pressure was on! As the day moved
forward there were increasing signs that both teams were iring
very well and there was a good feeling that the A team were in the
running for top spot. Sgt Loader, whilst keeping a close eye on
the B team scores was happy to inform Capt Williams that we had
been successful in avoiding a low score and gaining a satisfying
position.
The ASPT Commanding Oficer and 2IC kindly visited Pirbright
and watched the two teams iring. The inal result for the A team
was second place overall, competing against twelve teams. The
A team won four best shots with L/Cpl Khan in the Defence
shoot, Sgt Mullen in the Urban Contact Shoot, L/Cpl Khan won
the overall Individual shoot with most points and Sgt Mullen won
second place in the overall shoot. The B team also enjoyed a
successful day, with their highlight gaining a semi inal place in the
ASPT Shooting Team 2013
falling plate competition.
