of the display cases when we don’t know
exactly what is held in the collection!
The Museum has received a grant for
£1,000 from the Army Museum Ogilby
Trust to assist with the ongoing care and
conservation of the Museum collection.
As I write this, 100 acid free archival boxes
are being made to appropriately store the
Museum objects and archive. As of June
2013 the Museum had its irst ever lecture
series, where civilians and the military
could enjoy complimentary refreshments
in the Museum gallery before being
treated to a fascinating (and free) talk by
prominent historians and authors, such
as Saul David and Linda Parker. These
lectures, along with other events and
activities, will help raise the proile of the
Museum within the local community and
encourage the general public to make use
of this fascinating collection.
Work is also underway on refreshing the
existing display boards and cases. New
representational historical environments
will add an additional level of interpretation
to the Museum gallery, plus there will be an
increased level of interactive elements to
create engaging displays and encourage
active participatory learning. Simply put,
there will be replica gymnasium scenes,
trenches and Forward Operating Bases,
plus more touch screen computers,
games, uniforms and equipment for
visitors to play with.
This will take time, however with the
assistance of the Corps (serving and
retired), Museum volunteers [Images:
Volunteers Alf Prince and Bob Bean hard

applications, I’m sure that the Royal Army
Physical Training Corps Museum will be
as good as all other museums in the area.
