I feel it’s only proper for the “Study Awards” to be simpliied into
one old favourite – Bum of the Tour of which there are notable
candidates:

In third – SSgt (SSI) Kel “Footwear lost in the Alma” Noteyoung

Healthy second – Sgt (SI) Sam “Wardrobe Malfunction in the
Forest” Leng

....but our winner by unanimous decision has to be –

SSgt (SSI) Mark “Caught in Immigration” Freeman.

Further mention must go to WO1 (SMI) Ian “Alarm Not Set” Lester
for his near repatriation to the Ukraine on nearly missing the
transport home.

In conclusion, many thanks to Capt (MAA) Lee Dyson for the
organisation of what was a fantastic study for all involved. Also to
Major John Cotterill for his knowledge and theatrical enthusiasm.
It gave everybody the opportunity to, not only see what the

precursor and catalyst to the creation of our Corps was, but
Monument to Battle of Alma
to also visit a country that would potentially never be available
otherwise. A thoroughly informative and rewarding journey that I
more so than a certain lip-lop wearing partisan. Poor footwear would very happily repeat.

admin by Sgt ???,

Many of the sites visited had quite emotive stories to tell – none
more so than the Charge of the Light Brigade and it’s catalogue

of errors. We were lucky enough to see a basic re-enactment
from afar of the Charge, although I would question its validity of
accuracy from historical accounts – I don’t think there were aircraft
in the Crimean War!

The study culminated with a tour of the acclaimed Panorama,
which depicted the Siege of Sevastopol by the hand of an artist in
minute detail. After visiting the sites of The Redan and Malakoff
defensive positions we had completed the story with a wash-up

and summary then it was back to the hotel for the team dinner and
an early morning return to Blighty.

The journey home was not without incident. On the internal

transfer from Simferopol to Kiev, one of the team decided to leave
his passport on the plane whilst proceeding to the next terminal for
the London light. A nervous wait ensued and with only minutes
to spare the offending party arrived at the gate to sighs of relief.
