Your garden in June
As June arrives, the days lengthen, the sun shines brighter and the temperatures rise. Our gardens burst into life with a riot of colours and scents. June is the month of abundance with a plethora of flowers in bloom and a long list of jobs to be done in the garden.
Perhaps the most striking feature of our gardens this month is the profusion of flowers in full bloom. Roses take centre stage, filling the air with their sweet fragrance and adorning gardens with their exquisite blooms. Peonies with their larger lush petals make their grand appearance as do the spikes of foxgloves and lupins swaying in the breeze. Vibrant poppies add a splash of colour to borders and beds and the 6th of June
this year marks the 80th Anniversary of D-Day Normandy Landings. Poppies of course being the symbol of remembrance for over 100 years.
June is a good time to feed your plants. Applying a balanced fertiliser to flowering plants and those grown in pots can help promote healthy growth and abundant blooms. Deadheading spent flowers not only keeps your garden looking neat and tidy, but also encourages plants to produce more flowers.
Another job on the June to do list is weeding. The warmer weather also encourages the weeds in our garden to grow with abandon too. Little and often is perhaps best to keep borders and beds looking their best. Although keeping an
