                                   ROWING FOR SUPPORT
Supporting the Royal British Legion (RBL) 2Lt Liz Millard and her partner Warrant Officer (Second Class) Martin Field (4 Brigade CTT) are raising awareness and funds for the RBL.
2Lt Millard said “They do amazing work and provide services to serving personnel and veterans of the armed forces. Among these services are counselling, financial support, counteracting isolation and loneliness and enabling the improvement of physical and mental well-being of veterans and serving personnel.”
Unfortunately, due to the current climate 2Lt Millard and WO2 Field were unable to sell poppies on the street in the Autumn. Therefore, they came up with a great way to both raise funds and awareness of the RBL.
Between them they managed to row the entire distance of the Dover to Dunkirk evacuation route, racking up a total of 93 miles! They completed this challenge on a Concept 2 indoor rowing machine over a 2-day period: approximately
8 rowing hours per day. 2Lt Millard went on to say “The RBL need donations to keep these services going, so we are rowing the distance of Dover to Dunkirk and back in order to help this cause.”
Together they originally set a goal of £250 to be raised for the RBL but by the end of their fundraiser they had achieved 248% of their target thanks to all the supports and have raised an outstanding total of £620.
  TheJointA&B Remembrance Service
Despite the lockdown restrictions affecting the majority of Remembrance Day events across Humberside and South Yorkshire. A and B Companies joined together for an unforgettable Remembrance Day service. In the spirit of keeping the ACF flame alive and to continue honouring those who have fallen and those that have made sacrifices for us to be here today.
We have two quotes from 2Lt Hollie Troughton and SSI Zara Thorpe who were in attendance of the service:
2Lt Hollie Troughton said “In light of the pause to face-to-face training and Remembrance Day services or events not being
able to go ahead as planned, A and B companies came together
to host a virtual Remembrance Day service. Despite not being
able to physically be together due to the ongoing pandemic it
was very important to us that we were able to join together in an
act of remembrance to ensure our brave war veterans are never forgotten. The service was led by Padre Ivan with readings from cadets and adult volunteers. It was a thoughtful and moving service, and we are extremely grateful to Padre Ivan for bringing us together in thought, reflection and prayer. A huge thank you to everyone who was able to join us. It was so lovely to see so many families joining together. Over 100 participants in the virtual service and many more participating via the live stream really shows how meaningful and important Remembrance Day is to us all. Lest we forget.”
SSI Zara Thorpe followed by saying “Today on our national day
of remembrance, where we as a nation stop to remember and pay our respect to those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to this great country, could not attend parades as we do annually. After a difficult year for everyone and in these uncertain times, I was proud to pay my respects alongside both companies in our virtual remembrance service. Even though it may not have been in the traditional fashion, I truly feel that it was an absolutely fantastic and moving combined effort! We stayed true to the sentiment of honouring those that have paid the ultimate price and all those that continue to sacrifice for us and this great nation”
