LORD-LIEUTENANT’S CADETS APPOINTED AND ADULT VOLUNTEERS RECOGNISED WITH LORD-LIEUTENANT’S CERTIFICATES
Across Yorkshire during the autumn our our Lord- Lieutenants presented their cadets with certificates and badges of appointment which they will wear proudly over the next year of their service. In addition, following the lead from last year’s events adult volunteers were also presented with the Lord-Lieutenant’s’ Certificate at the same occasion. However, what was different about this year’s events were that they were all held remotely and virtually. This did involve a considerable amount
of work behind the scenes as the RFCA team
were busy organising the briefings, presentations and importantly the Lord-Lieutenants and their respective cadets were filmed either speaking about the awards or giving their own presentations and showing what the cadet forces had done for them.
It did mean, regrettably, that very few of the award recipients this year met their Lord-Lieutenant in person on the day of the filming as a timetable was put together to ensure that, where possible, there was no more than the maximum persons allowed
in each of the Reserve Centres used for the filming. What did happen, on the evening of the first showing of the film of each event was a virtual meeting between the Lord-Lieutenant and recipients where they all had the opportunity to speak with each other and find out a little more of their work with the cadet forces.
All four of our Lord-Lieutenants were delighted
to be able to appointed their cadets and present adult volunteers with their awards, and look forward to the time when they can meet face to face with
the recipients. In the East Riding of Yorkshire three female cadets were appointed as Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadets; and it is thought this is the first occasion where this has occurred.

Some potted facts about both the adult volunteers and the cadets follow...
EAST RIDING OF YORKSHIRE
Sue Coupland
Sue has been an active member of Hull Sea cadets for 11 years and during this time she has taken
on various roles within the Unit Management Team, starting out as treasurer due to her previous
Sue puts everything into the secretary’s role; working tirelessly
to maintain the funding to keep the unit open and raise the £16000 per annum that the unit requires
employment within the Banking sector; a role that suited her, but she soon started to realise that one role is not something that a member of the UMT got away with!
She quickly realised being the secretary was another way she could enhance the small but
well working UMT; and carried on with these two positions until another volunteer, who worked with the tax office was tasked with the treasurer’s role.
Sue puts everything into the secretary’s role; working tirelessly to maintain the funding to keep the unit open and raise the £16000 per annum that the unit requires, and to supply any equipment requested by the CO. Not only has Sue kept this sum going but she has also been instrumental in raising funds for various projects which have included a new flat roof, disabled toilets, a full internal decoration programme and a dedicated mechanical workshop to name a few!
One of her great achievements is instigating an Ambassador scheme involving some well-known dignitaries from around the area to champion the cause of Hull Sea Cadets. She has also kept the Unit very much in the public gaze by working closely with Hull City Council and the Maritime Museum, local businesses are also a firm focus of hers!
In addition, Sue can also be found at every event with her camera capturing exciting photos for future use (and is a constant contributor of high quality pictures to this magazine!).
