 REGIONAL RACING CADETS
Stepping up to the mark and representing SYC at regional and national events this year our junior racers continue to contest trophies across the classes.
This superb pull-through of junior members from Cadets to the Salcombe handicap fleets has seen some great sailing, with hotly contested competition against the adults. Don’t ignore that youth in your wake – they may be about to take you! Of note, the following are proud to have sailed under the club burgee this season:
Laser Nationals – Emily Janzen, Ru McColl, George Alexander
RS Feva Nationals – Ben Meek, Will James
RS Feva Inland Championships – Ben Meek, Will James
RYA South & South West Regional Junior Championships:
Topper – Isabella Wood, Louis Tollins, Dom Holt-Wilson, George Alexander
RS Tera – Edward Alexander
RS Feva – Ben Meek and Will James, Gus Howells and James Alexander
During the September 18 Regional Champs, Ben and Will secured a superb first overall in the Feva class and Edward gained 2 firsts and a second place in the Tera Regatta Fleet. For all those that attended, the fresh northerly winds, the 60+ boat Topper start line and a National Sailing Academy bulging with over 300 junior sailors really created a sense of occasion. It also created enough self-pressure to make even the most experienced sailors stressed!
It is through the support of the club, the volunteers that run Cadets and our committed approach to developing all our sailors that we can be proud of our junior members. Sail On!
