ADULTS BUILD ADVENTURE TRAINING
SKILLS AT CANNOCK CHASE By SSI Donna Nixon
SSI Donna Nixon, PI Mat Johnson, of C Company and Lt Lyn Jones of D Company spent a weekend gaining valuable personal skills at Cannock Chase, Staffordshire, home to Staffordshire and West Midlands ACF.
SSI Nixon and Lt Jones put their paddle skills to the test and completed the water-sports Foundation Safety and Rescue Training award. This course
will support us and your cadets to consider safe practices, provide practical solutions to common issues and appropriate responses to incidents, and provide peace of mind when venturing out onto the water, using a full range of different paddlesport craft.
PI Johnson has completed training towards his Mountain Lowland Leader Award, where he gained valuable experience prior to his assessment later in the year.
With various courses on offer from mountain biking, expedition supervisor, NNAS, just to name
a few, with top class coaches to give advice and support, CPD organisers working in conjunction with CCAT have plans to hold more events in the future.
Cannock Chase Forest is already well known as
a centre for mountain biking with two established waymarked trails called `Follow the Dog` and the `Monkey Trail`, together with being the location of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games where they host the men’s and women’s mountain biking events on 3 August.
We all came away from our courses with achieve- ments in personal skills and valuable experience. These courses and CCAT are highly important to support the country and companies in AT and DofE.
