RK CONTINUES IN THE ARMY
to Canada. But it was time for my next adventure. Joining the Army.
I worked hard on my fitness, on my entrance tests and passed selection to join the Royal Military Police. My dream job within the Army and my end goal from before I even joined the cadets.
The background, the skills, knowledge base I had gained from being in the ACF gave me a grounding for joining the army, the values and standards instilled in us as cadets by the adult instructors from day one helped me develop personally and be a team player and have pride in everything I did.
Being a cadet helped me during Phase 1 training, especially when it came to Skill at Arms because
I’d been taught it all within the ACF. It wasn’t just practical skills that I brought with me into the Army but being proud of who I am and what I’m doing. That’s the most important thing for me.
I’ve never forgotten where I came from and what I learnt in the ACF that has helped me progress and become the person I am today.
Which is why, when I deployed to Kenya, and found out about the One Child Charity, and the difficulty they had providing the simple things like sanitary items for the girls. I knew I had to help.
I worked
hard on my fitness, on my entrance tests and passed selection to join the Royal Military Police
So, using social media, I put a request out to my friends and family. Within a few minutes I’d had a message from my old Detachment Commander. “Leave it with me”. I couldn’t believe the amount of support that she got behind her and the amount of items I’ve had come through the post. It's been staggering; and I know there’s more to come. She even managed to secure donations in money from two local charities to help with the postage costs.
On my first night at Scunthorpe detachment, she said to me like all new recruits. “We’re a family here at Scunthorpe, we help each other, we support each other and we work for each other. We have values and standards in the ACF and we live by these”. And it’s true, even after all this time, she’s still there... supporting me (us). Whenever we need it.
What I learnt in the ACF will always be with me, what I got from being a cadet will stay in my heart forever and I take it with me in the way I live my life.
I would like to say a massive thank you to the members of HSY ACF, Scunthorpe Rotary Club and Rotary Club of Scunthorpe Pentagon, and all the other people who donated to help with the care packages.
