Potted facts on the cadets appointed to their new positions include...
NIAMH HYATT teaches the two and three star
cadets at her detachment every week, and adapts
her lessons well to the strengths and learning styles of the cadets that she is teaching. She has been invaluable in encouraging and helping the other cadets to take part in virtual parade nights especially helping them to access the Zoom sessions. She has been willing to adapt her lessons to this style and is confident in delivering them. She is a great role model to the other cadets, sets high standards, is always willing to help the cadets with their presentation and will even take cadets to one side in her NAAFI break to give them extra help with drill.
SPENCER CAVELL is an able Marksman and is on the Squadron Shooting team, who won the Wing Inter-Squadron Air Rifle Target Marksmanship Competition. He has achieved multiple Air Rifle Marksmanship qualifications and, in addition,
has successfully completed the Corps Basic Blue Badge Leadership Award and the Corps Foundation Leadership Award. An accomplished swimmer, Spencer has attained the Corps Basic, Intermediate and Advanced, Swimming proficiencies. He is an
able musician and has attained Trumpeter, Radio Operator, Cyber Communications awards and quali- fications. He has been actively involved in Community Service whilst with the Corps, attending numerous Galas and Fayres together with fund raising throughout the year for charities including Red Nose Day, Sports Relief, the RBL Poppy Appeal, the Royal Air Forces Association (RAFA) Wings Appeal and the RAF Benevolent Fund Appeal. Spencer has also been involved with tidying-up his community in a Doncaster St Ledger Rotary Club Litter Pick.
TOBY MATTHEWS has been a member of 868 (Mirfield) Squadron for four years, and is an excep- tionally capable individual, with a keen interest
in aviation. He has proven himself to be a highly competent instructor at his Squadron, and has supported the Wing Training Team both as an instructor and assessor on Leadership courses. He has gained high levels of praise for his competence at working in the virtual world during the Coronavirus pandemic. Outside cadets, he is also Deputy Head Boy and a member of the Student Council at Castle Hall Academy in Mirfield.
PHOEBE BUCKLEY has attended many Air Cadet camps including a week long Adventure Training Camp at the Windermere Training Centre, the National Aerospace Camp during 2018, and the National Drill and Ceremonial Camp in 2019. She has participated in a variety of events ranging from local bag packs at supermarkets to ceremonial parades, demonstrating a high level of commitment to both her squadron, the Corps and her community. She
is working towards her Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, having previously completed both Bronze and

Silver levels during 2019. She also completed her first successful solo flight in a glider at the age of just 14. Phoebe fully supports her Squadron and Wing community engagement and has partciapted in many fund raising activities.
BEN ATKINSON has fully embraced the cadet experience and taken every opportunity available to him, qualifying in a range of specialisms including excelling in Catering; achieving the advanced qualifi- cation. He was a member of the District football team which was triumphant at the Northeast Yorkshire competition. Keen on water sports, Ben also took part in the NE Yorkshire Regatta. He demonstrates strong potential leadership qualities helping with the Junior Cadets and assisted at the unit’s boating venue. Ben completed 18 months as Lord Mayor of Hull's cadet during lockdown and despite his duties having been severely curtailed due to the pandemic he approached each event with gusto and enthusiasm representing the Sea Cadets in a positive light. He has also fully participated in community events such as Merchant Navy Day, RAFA Service parade and VJ Day Service parade and many more.
SALAHUDEEN (SAL) HUSSAIN excelled during the pandemic lockdowns and decided to raise money for the Special Boat Service Association and his Unit. He did this by training to undertake the Fan Dance (see Pen Y Fan in the Brecon Beacons for more details). This sadly was delayed, but he continued
to train for the event, in addition to engaging with the Royal Marines Community, with direct lines of communication with the CO of 45 Commando, Lt Col Catton, which led to a personal invitation to visit Arbroath to meet him and the Royal Marines who served under him. He also now counts serving and
