Welsh Branch visit to Ty Maeth – RCN HQ in Wales
In early September 2018, members of Welsh Branch were invited by Colonel (Retd) Tina Donnelly, to visit the Royal College of Nursing Headquarters at Ty Maeth where she is director. On arrival we were treated to tea and sandwiches. A fascinating presentation on the history of Ty Maeth and RCN Wales was given by Colonel Donnelly. The presentation was accompanied by a large number of pictures, one member recognising her former Matron! The Welsh Board RCN was formed in 1962 following a great deal of hard work by these early leaders. A fundraising appeal for a permanent headquarters was launched by Harry Secombe in 1964. This was followed by the official opening of the building in 1965 by HRH Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowden. Ty Maeth was born! Whilst the building has seen many structural changes over the years the great work of RCN Wales ‘fighting for the best possible future for nursing in Wales’ continues.
It was on 20 April 1968 that the inaugural meeting of Welsh Branch of QARANC Association took place at Ty Maeth. There were 14 members present. Following the
