                                 Pocklington recruitment drive a resounding
success!
By SI Kirsty Brooks
All detachments have their ups and downs with attendance and the last few months
has seen cadet numbers at Pocklington Detachment take a bit of a dip, with a low number of cadets parading regularly and less than 20 on the books. Seeing the numbers dropping but knowing the benefits of being in the Cadet Force, a small team of cadets came together to up their numbers!
Cadets SSgt Evie Brooks, LCpl Katie Greensted, with Cadets Harry Watkins and Joshua Castle, however, had a mission to up their numbers.
The team created a video and PowerPoint presentation, made leaflets, rehearsed a talk and booked slots at their school assembly to speak directly to their peers, inviting them to a special night at the detachment following the talk.
They thought that if they could encourage three or four people from each year group to show some interest then it would count as a win.
The team then laid on a night of team building games and drill with a ‘Welcome to the Detachment’ presentation by SSgt Brooks on Monday 29th April.
To their amazement, they saw 26 new cadets attend, with a large number of them completing the new joiner tracker to start their own journey in the ACF.
SI Kirsty Brooks - Detachment Commander said: "Our quiet but cosy detachment has suddenly become very full and loud with lots of keen new faces eager to enquire about company weekends, when their uniform will arrive and what lessons are coming up"... she went on to say "It’s been fantastic a massive well done to the 'recruitment team' for stepping up and promoting the detachment and the ACF."

E COMPANY LEADS THE WAY WITH A JOINT TRAINING WEEKEND
By Lt Liz Field
Over the weekend of 10 – 12 May, HSY ACF held the first of two Navigation and Expedition Weekends.
152 Cadets from around the County descended on Willow Fields Campsite, in Haxey, North Lincolnshire to challenge their navigation and expedition skills. For some of the cadets the weekend was very challenging, but they all worked hard over the weekend ensuring they developed, learnt and passed the testing phase of the weekend.
But little did they know, that the first night, they were in for a very special treat! As the night sky got darker, their eyes were drawn to the sky as they witnessed the Northern Lights dance and put on a show; setting the tone for a great weekend full of sun and clear sky.
Cadet LCpl Jamie Holl from Scunthorpe Detachment said: “it
was nice to have a large HSY ACF weekend. We got to train and develop with cadets from other companies, that we don’t see until Annual
Camp and make new friends. Great weekend!”
The weekend was planned
and managed by E Company and supported by staff from around the County. Major Matt Lundie, Officer Commanding E Company said: “This is the first weekend of a new HSY operating model. A great deal has been achieved and I am proud of all the hard work the cadets have put into the weekend. I am grateful to the adult team for enabling the amazing training. We achieved loads of passes, so a huge well done everyone!”.
