Alpine Skiing
All the gear, no idea
In December, the QDG Alpine Skiing team once again loaded up and made its annual trip to Verbier, Switzerland, for Ex White Knight 38. The team was accommodated in a Chalet owned by a retired Major from The Black Watch, David Boulter, who settled in Verbier after meeting and subsequently marrying a chalet girl, a life that the team all aspired to live.
Having been graded, training began, with some individuals finding their ski legs quicker than others. The QDG novices received praise from their Swiss Ski School instructors for their complete and total unwarranted confidence, quickly throwing themselves down slopes that were a stretch beyond their ability. This attitude, perhaps motivated by the ability to tracks one’s speed through GPS, paid dividends when it came to the speed events, with LCpl Newbold dropping over 30 bibs in one day of racing.
Of course, it wasn’t only the novices who were progressing well, with Lt Toby Clark swiftly impressing the Exercise team and making a name for himself in Group One. Whilst his form somewhat faltered in the RAC Championships (perhaps somewhat distracted with other
