Reisetomate
This is a fascinating Tomato, It looks like a bunch of cherry tomatoes fused together, each one can be removed individually so you can snack on the move (its German name translates as ‘traveller’s tomato’). Perfect for lunch boxes or picnics, it is a cordon variety with tangy-tasting fruits. Ideal for greenhouse growing. Available from Dobies
Aubergine Green Knight
An exciting Aubergine which produces high yields of long, smooth skinned fruit, the ideal shape and colour for using in authentic Asian dishes. Plants are relatively compact and show good resistance to disease, to give high quality crops of eye-catching fruits which can reach 17cm/6.5in in length. The fruits are extremely versatile in the kitchen where the mildly sweet flesh lends itself well to roasting, sautéing or baking. Well worth a try! Available from DT Brown

Thompson & Morgan released two new squash varieties last year that will help if you’re trying to cut down on carbs. Winter squashes ‘Mashed Potato’ and ‘Baked Potato, as their names suggest, taste and behave like potatoes but with high fibre, fewer calories and lower carbs.
