2020 AGM
In March, in preparation for the Southern Region 2020 AGM, members were sent written reports from the Regional Representative, Treasurer and Secretary together with a list of those Committee Members prepared to be re-elected and those nominated for positions in the Region’s organisation. Members were sent a Voting Paper as well as inviting them to make any additional nominations for Committee members. The AGM was held on 17th April via Zoom.
At the start of the meeting, a minute’s silence was held in respect to the death of Prince Philip.
In his address, the Chairman thanked Jenny Crawford for her commitment and dedication to the work of the National Society, as she had decided not to stand for re-nomination as Regional Representative.
There were no additional nominations, so the meeting recorded that the following members were re-elected:
Chairman
Deputy Chairman Treasurer
Secretary Committee Member
Colin Mace Jim More
Iain Crawford Mike Cantillon Anne Rowley
Also, Mike Cantillon was nominated to become the Regional Representative, and Jim More was elected to be the Deputy Regional Representative.
We were very pleased to have the NAS President, Phil Gomersall, join us for our AGM, at the end of which he gave a very informative and interesting talk on the International Allotment Movement. He also made reference to the diplomas that are available for ecological gardening, innovative activities and social activities. In recent years Great Britain appears to
be lagging behind Europe with diplomas awarded and associations that meet the requirements are encouragedtoapply. (DetailsareontheNAS website: www.nsalg.org.uk/about-us/international- allotment-movement/)

  Compost Bin Ants
Whilst clearing a neglected garden, I took the lid off a very old compost bin... What a sight! A construction site of many years’ building by ants.
I didn’t have the heart to disturb it, so I’ve left it for someone else to decide whether the colony lives or not!
