aren’t, we can only reiterate what the CEO of the Devon Wildlife Trust told the Chairman at a meeting in January 2020. Allotment fields are green corridors through our towns, cities and villages where wildlife can survive the overwhelming amount of habitat loss due to development, and we all have a duty to do our bit to save it.
At the Focus Group meetings, it was apparent that something that people would really benefit from and would bring people together virtually and facilitate the sharing of knowledge, was talks on specific subjects; the following were suggested: organic gardening / no dig cultivation / composting / wildlife / environmental issues / irrigation
/ water conservation including the cultivation of plants that require less water / pollinators/beekeeping / rodent control / heritage vegetables and seed suppliers / tips for showing vegetables / pesticides/residues in food. It was also suggested that these be recorded and a library of webinars built up.
Where issues were raised or advice sought, these will be passed on to the relevant people to research or assist. Finally, we are very aware of the power of social media and feel that we need someone technically skilled to help us with this; are you that person? Let us know if you think you are. When you
read this article, summer will drawing to a close, and at the time of writing we can only hope you will all have had a good growing season!
