Leeds City Council Parks Dept Training Event
The training day was planned to encourage more city-controlled allotment sites to become self-managed and offer guidance on good practise to existing site managers in an overall attempt to reduce running costs to the Council.

The original planned venue proved to be an inappropriate layout to accommodate
the numbers wishing to attend which meant Council Nursery was offered as an alternative venue that proved to be more than adequate.
There were workshops and feedback on many issues during the morning session which was followed by lunch.
I have since seen the feedback from delegates was very positive and very encouraging
After lunch Alan Cavill, the NAS South West Mentor, gave a very informative talk. He had been invited to address the delegates due to his vast experience in setting up self-managed associations.
Unfortunately Tony Heeson and I were otherwise engaged at the Yorkshire Allotment Gardeners Federation AGM in York so we couldn’t attend.
I have since seen the feedback from delegates was very positive and very encouraging, the vast majority having said they had gained a lot from the event. Allan Cavill’s talk had proved to be both interesting and entertaining and our sincere thanks go to him.
I have since spoken to the LCC Allotments Of cer who said the content was very good and very appropriate and felt that all delegates had bene tted by attending.
It is planned to do a follow up event in the future, speci cally aimed at the issues which arose at the event.
