Compost in 30–90 Days with HOT Composting
Hot composting is a great way to make rich, organic compost quickly for your plot; typically in just 30-90 days. By achieving hot composting temperatures of 40-60°C,
a wider variety of waste types can be composted without the traditional problems of odours, turning and tumbling.
The HOTBIN is a hot aerobic compost bin; all garden and vegetable waste can go in and once operating at 40-60°C, all food waste can be added along with bones, weeds and weed seeds with pathogens killed off by the hot temperatures.
At 60°C the HOTBIN produces compost up to 32 times faster than traditional cold composting methods and potentially all year round, reducing the number of compost heaps needed as well as creating more space on plots.
Organic mulching grade compost is created in 30 days and compost rich in humus in 90 days.
Tested at Ryton Gardens by Garden Organic against a leading competitor, results found
the HOTBIN successfully processed a very challenging food waste mix into compost after 90 days, and managed to have an internal temperature of 60°C despite the outside temperature measuring 10°C.
Unlike traditional composting methods, the HOTBIN requires a slightly different process
to keep it working aerobically. Layering is
no longer needed; instead chopping and mixing waste in with woody bulking material for aeration and shredded paper to control moisture is necessary. Working like a chimney, moisture is expelled as steam through the valve in the lid, whilst the built-in bio-filter reduces odours.
Wheelie bin sized, the HOTBIN is a sealed unit with no additional power source. Made from 100% recyclable expanded polypropylene the bin insulates heat generated naturally by bacteria; it’s also extremely lightweight when empty.
Prices start from £165 and discounts are available for multiple purchases.
