ShieldVantage Bespoke Insurance for Allotment Associations
Premiums for Public Liability for the Association and plot holders start from just under £50.00 (including Insurance Premium Tax) and the following examples show how the costs vary for the basic liability cover according to the level of protection you want and number of plot holders on the site: The insurance is designed to allow you to ‘pick and mix’ any of the optional extras desired and set the level of cover needed for your specific needs. This means you can tailor your insurance to provide the level of benefits needed without paying for cover you do not want. To include protection for buildings worth £10,000 starts at £40.28 and for 7,500 cover on equipment the cost can be as low as £39.75.
NAS Legal
Advice
The National Allotment Society provides a range of legal advice to members, covering the following areas: • Allotment legislation and
disputes
• Tenancy Agreements
• Planning
• Health and Safety
• Environmental Law
• Contract Law
• Data Protection
• Company Law
We do receive up to 100 calls per week, which my colleague Holly Clark and
I endeavour to answer as quickly as possible. In order to provide this service, the NAS are required to carry Professional Indemnity Insurance to ensure that the guidance given is delivered by professionally qualified personnel. This insurance is renewed on an annual basis, with a full declaration of professional qualifications.
For many years prior to joining NAS I have advised agricultural suppliers, farmers and commercial organisations in many aspects of the
law. Throughout that time I adopted the philosophy that prevention is always better than cure. With the ever- growing number of enquiries to this office, I would like
to think that members
feel confident to discuss emerging problems and how best to handle them before any action is taken. This normally proves to be the most time-efficient approach and helps to avoid disputes, with the resultant poor reflection on all concerned.
From the beginning of 2015 I have been compiling a Legal Toolkit which will eventually sit in the members’ section
of the website, covering all the areas above where advice is given. This kit will also provide draft documents and templates to help assist with the running of allotments sites. We will keep you informed on the progress
of this project which should prove a valuable addition to your membership.
