System (APTS). The level of education our students now receive is outstanding, which will further enhance the reputation of our instructors and the standard of their delivery.
We have a thriving RAPTC WOs’ & Sgts’ Mess and I would urge all members to continue to set the right example by supporting both Mess functions and Association Branch Dinners. The opportunity to engage with likeminded people, in a relaxed environment, and celebrate their personal journeys as they leave the Mess is
important and one that I strongly encourage people to engage with. Your support of our retired colleagues at their Branch Dinners is crucial. They really appreciate it when serving personnel are in their midst; they are the same people we are, so do your best to support them.
I look forward to visiting many of you over the coming year. Please keep communicating with me as I am always keen to hear your views.
The CDC has seen a number of changes over the year, with the departure of WO2 (QMSI) Carl Amery, SSgt (SSI) Wes Greaves and ‘Dos’ Dosunmu. In their place have arrived WO2 (QMSI) Lee Kinsley, SSgt (SSI) Lee Hathaway and Sgt (SI) Dean Hammond. Despite these significant changes, up skilling, tempo of work and additional responsibilities outside of the day- to-day CDC tasks being experienced by all cell members, it has been a great time to be assigned to CDC, influencing and shaping the future of the Corps.
Prior to my assignment to the ASPT CDC, I heard the usual banter, ‘that CDC was only for computer geeks’. However, what I have learnt and come to respect is that this department should not be undervalued. The product that comes out from this cell is not only first class, but also has a direct impact on the future of the Corps. Since my arrival, the department has been fully engaged in completely re-invigorating the RAPTC Instructors Course and AAPTI course. Creating changes that are in harmony with contemporary strength and conditioning practices, and forming a knowledge base that far exceeds previous course structures in order to apply the new Army Physical Training System (APTS). Detailed updates for each of the courses have included:
All Arms PTI (AAPTI) Course
The new course has been designed from the Essentials of Strength and Conditioning (4th ed) and in line with the UKSCA. The course is linear in design with a focus on ‘earning the right’ in order to progress through the components of fitness. The new programme includes all elements from the APTS and students are now delivering lessons directly from that programme. The Instructional Practices (IP’s) continue in the same fashion as the course, initially aimed at single components of fitness prior to progressing onto several components within the tactical PT sessions. The last set of IP’s are designed to further test the potential AAPTI’s allowing them just 20 mins to prepare their lessons. This is designed to assess their ability to plan a lesson within a short time frame in order to replicate what may happen at their units in the future.

AAPTI Coaching Strength Training
RAPTC Instructors Course
This course format and content has changed considerably in order to meet the requirement expected of a contemporary RAPTCI. Particular detail within the junior term is aimed towards remind and revise on the foundations of being a PTI. During the intermediate term the emphasis is on the RAPTC Instructors developing their coaching ability by taking leading roles in delivering to the AAPTI Course, through Flag Competitions, MATT 2 Testing, Gym Agility, Tactical PT and assessing the AAPTI IP’s. The senior term is targeted towards educating students of the management and assurance required for a newly qualified RAPTCI. Management and implementation of the APTS, PD assurance and the Defence Health and Wellbeing Advisor Course are just some of the new changes. Furthermore, this course contains a consistent integration of anatomy and exercise physiology combined with an applied intervention of the components of fitness throughout.
