RAPTC road cycling has grown significantly over the last few years with both individual and team successes. The Inter Corps Road Cycling Championships is the yardstick to
progress and something the Corps places substantial importance on. Having won it in 2014 and 2015 but lost the title in 2016 the team was determined to regain top honours and get back on the podium for 2017. The Championships in October turned out to be an unforgettable day for many, which culminated in a dominate performance. The event was held at ‘Hogg Hill’ in London which has a reputation for being one of the toughest circuits in the country on a purpose built cycling track. This venue hosts many civilian races across the season; renowned for its twists and turns with the added demanding hill climb on each lap. The Corps rode brilliantly in all races and held it together as the other Corps succumbed to both the pace and brutal climbs. In the end, we won every team category and all the individual prizes. There were several standout performances; Sgt (SI) M Kirkbright RAPTC achieved an outstanding win in the male team race; beating several top riders including the current Scottish National Champion. In addition, Capt (MAA) Greenwood RAPTC won the male masters title and WO2 (QMSI) R McKenzie RAPTC won the female masters title.
