in the Quarter-Finals against overall competition winners, 13 Air Assault Regt RLC. The Battalion remained un-deterred from this result and continued to focus its main sporting effort resulting in being crowned Bde Festival of Sport Boxing Champions 2017. However the big push will be to win the Army Champs once more in 2018..... Good luck Fusiliers!
Other business outside of sport saw the Battalion conduct a statistical based study via direction of GOC 3 (UK) Div, looking at the reduction of MSKI in relation to HIIT based training methods. Testing mesures used were the PFA, OFT 2 and the AFT (using the rate of perseived exertion (RPE)) to collect data. Over an 8 week period, two groups would complete different programs, one related to short (30 mins) High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) based sessions with the other conducting PT in line with the Bn training programme. Results highlighted interesting differences between groups in PFA and OFT 2 showing that HIIT based methods aided in Press Up strength and improved 2.4km run time. Body weight and composition were also impoved in the HIIT group with OFT 2 times also improving. AFT RPE did show regression as personnel found the test more demanding when not conducting more endurance based training in their programme. Fall out from the study saw a change to training mentality within the Battalion having given the Commanding Officer a good representation as to how tough HIIT based training is and how time effective it could be for the Battalion.
Having been assigned to ASPT in Jan 18, I would like to wish the new RAPTCI the best of luck taking over what has been a fantastic Battalion to work with the past 2 years. Good luck!
