ATC (P) QMSI PERSPECTIVE AND SKIING EXPEDITION
WO2 (QMSI) R L Mckenzie RAPTC
Ihave now been here at ATC (P) for just over a year and the tempo has only increased instead of settling down into a steady routine. With trials for the potential new Physical Employment Standards
(PES), implementing the Pre-Conditioning Course (PCC) and Conditioning Course (CC), alongside ensuring the 48 strong staff here stay current and competent with all updates on policies and practices, 2017 has been nothing but a challenge. 2018 brings the new challenge in the implementation of Programme THOR and staff training has been catered around this topic to ensure the AAPTIs are fully conversant with the ’Army Physical Training System’ (APTS) and what they will be expected to deliver here at ATC(P). It will also give them an insight into what PT will look like once they return to their units either as a deliverer of the APTS or a receiver whilst on PT.
ATC (P) Skiing Expedition
Without having a busy enough day job, I decided to volunteer to take on the annual ATC (P) Skiing Expedition which involved taking 72 permanent staff to Val Thorens in France. Having organised a skiing exped before I didn’t think it would be too difficult. However with the constant changing circumstances for those attending meant the final group attending was very different to the initial list and with 4 personnel dropping out in the last week it was a mad scramble to ensure the exped was full. After a long bus journey we arrived in resort to the best conditions the Alps had seen in years. This allowed us to get a large number of personnel through their SF1, SF2 and SF3 qualifications over the 2 week period. It also allowed the permanent staff to socialise and integrate with a large number of personnel across the centre, therefore fostering good working relations and Esprit de corps.
Commanding Officers’
Challenge Cup (COs’ CC)
Being responsible for the promotion of the sport within ATC (P) is a key role for obvious reasons and one that is satisfying in many ways. Due to the many commitments, responsibilities and demands of one of the busiest Army Training organisations, it is essential to consistently promote the importance of playing Sport where possible. ATC (P) plays a unique role with regards to participation in Sport

Sgt (SI) B Sargent RAPTC
During my time as a Sergeant Instructor within the P&RTC, my responsibilities have been varied; however some of my tasks have included being the centre lead RAPTCI for
Sport, the organisation and delivery of the Commanding Officers’ Challenge Cup and the implementation of the recently established Mental Resilience Training.
by supporting the newly revised annual COs’ CC. Throughout the year each Regiment competes against one another in 5 competitive Sports. The Sports are; Basketball; Rugby (Touch); 5-a-side Football; Hockey and a March & Shoot. These add value to spotting new talent and creating a competitive environment for all ranks and ability. With the P&RTC being at the forefront
of these Sporting events, it comes with great responsibility which subsequently lies heavily on the AAPTIs to provide a service which tests their knowledge; preparation; delegation; organisational ability and upmost professionalism in order to produce an ‘A Star’ Sporting event. This doesn’t go unnoticed without the guidance from the 3 SIs within the department who provide assurance, advice and guidance throughout the process.
