GOOLE CADET RECEIVES
GOOD CITIZEN AWARD
A cadet from 2357 (Goole) Squadron, Royal Air Force Air Cadets has been awarded a 'Good Citizen' award for her work supporting Ukrainian refugees, by the Mayor of Goole, Councillor Chris Bailey.
Following recent global events in Ukraine, Cadet Natalia Sorbian from 2357 (Goole) Squadron wanted to do something to help! Natalia, along with her parents began to organise a collection for Ukrainian refugees in Poland. She helped organise members
of the Goole community to bring donations to various collections points in the Goole area and before long 5 van loads of much needed supplies were being driven to the Polish Ukrainian border to distribute to those who have been affected by the conflict.
Not wishing to stop there, she helped with raising money by having a tea party. In total she helped to raise £3000. These funds were then used to buy supplies in Poland. Cadet Sorbian had the chance to see for herself the impact of her efforts. She brought sweets to children who
fled Ukraine and were staying
in a hotel that had been turned over to help house refugees.
Cadet Sorbian said “The trip really taught me to appreciate what I have and how easy it is to help, even if it’s giving a can of food”. Her work was recently rewarded by the Mayor of Goole who presented her with an award in the ‘good citizen’ category.
Flying Officer Neil MacDonald OC 2357 (Goole) Squadron, said. "As her OC, Cadet Sorbian’s efforts represent the very best about being
a cadet. One of our aims is to develop the qualities of leadership and good citizenship and Cadet Sorbian has
demonstrated this by helping those
who are victims of conflict. What I most admire is has been her determination to
help others so far away. I am sure there will be families currently in Europe who have benefitted from the kindness and
compassion shown by Cadet Sorbian and her family and, I have nothing but admiration for them."
