HM THE QUEEN’S
PLATINUM JUBILEE
To celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty the Queen, 868 Squadron Air Cadets held their own “Street” Party at their headquarters in Mirfield, supported by great numbers of staff, committee, cadets and their families.
The site was decked out with bunting, paper chains and pictures of the Royal Family for
the occasion and the Squadron members enjoyed a buffet meal laid out in each of the two buildings, complete with two special celebration cakes which were provided by Warrant Officer Michelle Alford. There was even a sample of the special Jubilee Pudding for everybody to enjoy.
In addition to food the festivities included a “Royal Quiz” and the cadets presented a short display from the band and drill, and even invited some family members to have a go at drill - led by
CWO Jacob Stockwell!
There was also a raffle which raised
over £170 on the raffle - a value that will be matched by the Civilian Welfare Committee to purchase 20 trees for the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust, in support of the HM The Queen's Green Canopy Project.
Everybody present signed a card and this together with pictures of the event were sent Her Majesty at
Buckingham Palace, and at the end of the event all gathered outside and joined in a rousing
rendition of the National Anthem.
Special thanks are also made to Mirfield
Town Council for their generous financial support for the event.
Additionally, South and West Yorkshire Wing sourced celebration Jubilee Coins which were provided as a lasting memento of the Platinum
Jubilee and were later distributed to all members of the Wing: cadets, staff and squadron committees.
