CELEBRATE
THE SUCCESS
FOR FIRST
HALF OF 2022
Because of the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic,
for the first time since 2019 868 (Mirfield) Squadron were able to re-instate their annual Open Day and Presentation Parade, one of two major presentation events in the year. At the start of July, the Squadron was pleased to welcome two visiting Wing Commanders to the event: Wg Cdr Brian Daniel, Officer Commanding South and West Yorkshire Wing and Wg Cdr Stuart McNeill, Director of Training for the Royal Air Force Air Cadets. Mirfield Town Council was also represented by Councillor Martyn Connell, Deputy Mayor of Mirfield.
Parents and friends had been invited to support the cadets, and attended in force; the proceedings started with the two Wing Commanders inspecting the cadets on parade and speaking to each of them, before proceeding to present the various awards.
Wing Commander McNeill undertook the presentation of over 200 certificates, recognising the participation and achievements of cadets in the first half of the year, and these included Cadet classifi- cations, Space awards, British Science Association CREST Awards, St John Ambulance First Aid certificates, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, Methods of Instruction, Cadet Leadership, Aviation, Radio and Cyber Communications, Shooting, Road Marching, Health and Safety, Camp attendance and Archery.
Wing Commander Daniel presented various trophies for the best individual performances, and the principal ones went to:

Aiden Booth was promoted to the rank of Flight Sergeant and three new NCOs were appointed as corporals: Katie Ashford, Shaun Mitchell and Sachen Pathak. Also, during the proceedings, twelve new cadets were formally enrolled by the Squadron Chaplain, Rev’d Christine Shedd.
Wing Commander Daniel also had three very special presentations to make including;
