ANNUAL
CAMP
2022
By Captain Neil Bizzell and 2Lt Mary Hood
Cadets and adults from across the county gathered at CTC Driffield for our first full annual camp since the disruption of the last few years. Despite a last minute location change things went very well.
During the first week there were cadets out in the field on the training area, busy learning skills in the camp and having fun at Adrenaline.
In the field cadets learnt how to erect shelters, cook rations and operate as part of a section in the field. They also honed their skills on the paintball range and even had time for a game of pinecone rounders.
The 3 star cadets were a little further afield having deployed to Galtres training area, where they spent the week learning how to navigate in addition to conducting field training.
Back in camp the cadets were covering a range
of subjects with some very realistic looking injuries used to help with first aid training. The DCCT and the air rifle ranges saw heavy use as the cadets in camp put their shooting skills to the test. There was also other shooting parties heading off to the ranges at other camps to maximise the range time available.
The first week also included the county’s Visitor’s Day where guests from across the region were invited to CTC Driffield for a day of presentations and activities.
After an initial presentation guests visited a range of stands showcasing the activities on offer to our cadets. The activities on show included Drill, a

command task, a gun run, skill at arms (including a paintball range), communications, the DCCT, and a first aid casualty simulation.
It wasn’t all hard work though, with groups of cadets heading off to Adrenaline to take on the epic challenge of the Krypton Factor assault course, high ropes, Jacob’s ladder and taking the ‘leap of faith’.
At the beginning of the second week a new batch of One star cadets began their camp experience with a programme of activities mirroring the first but with a fresh set of faces. The cadets took part in a range of activities including weapon handling, first aid, navigation, fieldcraft and a trip out to Adrenaline.
