The other star levels continued their training from the first week, some returning from the training area (in some stye) and others heading out. Those returning took their turn using the camp facilities trained on the DCCT and took part in some very realistic first aid training. Fortunately all of the injuries were simulated by our very talented adult volunteers.
The final parades saw a number of promotions and awards including the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal to eligible adult volunteers who had a minimum service of 5 years. There were lots of promotion and certificates and prizes marking the achievements and accomplishments of the cadets and staff over the two weeks.
The Alex Duncan Trust Fund
The Trust fund was set up in 1987, following the death in service of the Cadet Executive Officer, Major Alex Duncan, in order to assist cadets and adults of the county in the provision of items which were not supported by the chain of command. Over the years between then and now the Trust has supported many former cadets and adults, together with being able to provide equipment and facilities which the county needed assistance with.
Unfortunately, over the last few years the Trust has not received much in the way of donations, nor has it been approached for any help and the remaining Trustees, Mrs. Val Horspool, Mrs. Alex Fuller and Major Steve Turner, took the decision to wind up the affairs of the Trust and donate the remaining funds to the county.
Easier said than done was the answer, as the banking system seemed to be against any form of supplying a cheque. However, persistence paid off and a cheque to the amount of £6665.37
was handed over during the Visitor’s Day event by Colonel David Fuller, the Trust’s Treasurer, and former Trustee, to the Commandant, Colonel Steve Emerson. Unfortunately, none of the present Trustees were able to make it on the day. However, their wishes were for the money to be used a contribution to the CTC and the balance towards Adventure Training or Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards.
