had spoken at length to the Army Benevolent Fund and found out a lot more about how they supported veterans and their families This was a great honour, that he and his family, together with the Contingent, are rightly proud of.
Every day cadets also took part in a display in
the Countryside Arena. Invited by Lt Col Barney Barnbrook, Regional Director of The Army Benevolent Fund, cadets supported gamekeepers from The National Gamekeepers Organisation as they told the story of “A Year on a Grouse Moor”. The cadets were directly supervised “shooting grouse” with shotguns, in addition to collecting much needed money for the ABF.
Astrea Dearne CCF cadets and Adult Volunteers would like to thank RFCA for again giving them this opportunity, 4YORKS and everyone in the military village. We all had an amazing time, won pedal bins (that’s a story for another time) and look forward to next year.

We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity and we look forward to reinforcing those ever-important links made during the week to grow and provide excellent opportunities for our cadets.”

50 years to the day, 6 September, from walking into East Hull Barracks and commencing adult volunteer service, I visited the same barracks. During my service I have commanded HSY ACF, held appointments as Colonel Cadets at both 15 and 4 Brigades, Vice President of the Cadet Force Commissions Board and, following completion of my active service with the ACF, am now Deputy OC Central and East Yorkshire Wing ATC.
On my first visit to East Hull Barracks, I was interviewed by the then Commandant, Colonel Ian Graham, and the Detachment Commander, later Colonel David Telfer, and taken for my first legal pint at the pub next door. Regrettably, the pub has now closed, so I was unable to partake of any liquid refreshment there. However, OC 152 (City of Hull) Squadron, Squadron Leader Danielle Cooper, kindly welcomed me to the unit and produced a birthday cake too, following an Enrolment Ceremony for new cadets joining the Squadron.
