BRIGADE BATTLE WINNING CAPABILITY CADRES
From April to June, I Company ran ‘Battle Winning Capability Cadres,’ involving every unit across 4th Light Brigade Combat Team (4 LBCT). The cadres were a resounding success, qualifying 67 individuals across fire support company disciplines: Snipers, Mortarmen, Javelin Operators, Machine Gunners, Recce Patrolman, and for the first time ever in distributed training, Basic Assault Pioneers.
The Cadres were a mammoth deployment,
with over 300 SP deployed by the final stages, carefully planned and executed by the Battalion. The training took place across 10 Defence Training Estates, culminating in collective training in the Galloway Forest over 4-10 weeks in length. The instructors from 2 RIFLES delivered a first-class package that was praised by all units attending, including training five Riflemen from 8 RIFLES on the Anti-Tank cadre, reinforcing the Regular – Reserve integration and the strength of our

Regimental system. The cadres also provided live fire for all students, including Heavy Machine Guns, Explosive Method of Entry, Sniper and an unprecedented 12 x ‘Anti-Tank’ missiles (Javelin, NLAW and ASM).
The Cadres concluded with two large ‘Battlegroup’ missions in the Galloway Forest, where the training from the previous 4-8 weeks was put to the test in arduous and complex conditions. Aided with the addition of A and C Coy 2 RIFLES, the missions provided enabled realism in how they
would operate within a battlegroup context; particularly pertinent for our upcoming deployment to Kenya.
