ASSOC & WELLBEING
LIVERPOOL
The beginning of the year and the seasonal weather did not deter several veterans from the NW branch gathering for a kick start to 2024. I was pleasantly surprised by how many attended and the distance some had travelled. It’s always good to hear how everyone is making their way outside of the RIFLES and, wherever possible, listen to the hurdles encountered and how they were overcome, or not. It was also heartening
to see the families of bereaved attending and keeping in touch. My thanks to the NW branch for laying on a great evening.
BLACKPOOL
A bright but brisk day say several veteran Riflemen gather for a breakfast in the North-West at Poulton-Le-Flyde – the group comprised of veterans aged from their 80s through to the
30s, with backgrounds from the KRRC, LI, RGJ and RIFLES. For some, this was the first event
in a long time where they reconnected with colleagues and friends. The veterans were genuinely interested to hear what The Rifles were doing operationally and asked many questions. I’m looking forward to the next meet, hopefully when the weather’s warmer!
Mansfield
The Rifleman’s Association (TRA), Mansfield saw 40+ serving and veteran Riflemen meet for a warm and friendly gathering on a sunny Saturday. It was really refreshing to see so many, having led full second careers outside of the regiment.
Above and beyond warmth, camaraderie and instant connection, what was helpful was the openness with which many spoke about some
of their hurdles encountered but also the available advice on how to apply for pensions, employment and other matters all through attending the gathering. Everyone agreed it was a fantastic meeting and will gather again in the second half of the year, as well Remembrance. Thank you, guys, I look forward to the next gathering.
