German Bomber Crew –
and a Soldier of the Cyprus Regiment
Plot 18 holds six graves of German servicemen, five of whom (including four who are unidentified)9 are
the crew of a German JU 88 bomber shot down over Cyprus by 2 Spitfires of 154 Squadron on 3 February
1944, and one who died as a prisoner-of-war in 1947.10 An empty space indicates where a seventh has
been repatriated. Alongside them is the grave of Private H Ahmet, a Turkish-Cypriot soldier serving
with the Cyprus Regiment, who died on 4 September 1948, so he is not recorded on the Cyprus (Nicosia)
