The Memorial was unveiled on Remembrance Sunday 2009. The location in The Old British Cemetery
was chosen as this is much more accessible to families and friends than Wayne’s Keep, whose situation

in the Buffer Zone since 1974 has made access frustratingly difficult, and at times almost impossible.
Its presence close to the site of the original British military camp in Kyrenia, and the presence of the

aforementioned graves of Sergeant McGaw and his colleagues, also made this ‘an appropriate site to
commemorate the memory of those who lost their lives in service to their country.’41

The British Cyprus Memorial Trust has also instituted an online Roll of Honour and Memorial Book in

honour of these 371 servicemen.
