A Bereaved Wife and Mother
While all headstones awaken a natural sense of loss, some tell out a tale of anguish, perhaps none more so
in this cemetery than the headstone at the combined Plot 46 and 47, erected in 1894 as a token of esteem
by the Officers, Warrant Officers, and Sergeants of the 2nd Battalion Connaught Rangers. The small cross
at the foot of the larger memorial, and the dates of the two burials, speak louder than words.
‘Sergeant Chas Hamilton 2nd Bn Connaught Rangers who died at Troodos 20 Sep 1894 aged 38 years,
Also Margaret Elizabeth, beloved child of Chas and Elizabeth Hamilton died 11th Aug 1894 aged 4 months’
