The Loneliest Grave of All

Intriguingly, there is a single grave situated just outside the cemetery, with a simple inscription β€˜In

memory of G. Braggiotti 1906’. Further research reveals the tragic circumstances – he was apparently an
Italian in the victualling party, who committed suicide, and therefore, in accordance with church practice

at the time, could not be buried in consecrated ground.22 There is another Braggiotti buried in Cyprus,
namely 60 year old Vincenti J. Braggiotti, who died on 31 July 1889 and is now buried at Limassol Roman

Catholic Cemetery, under the largest memorial in that cemetery. With such a rare surname, it is almost
certain that they were directly related. Was Vincenti grandfather to G. Braggiotti?
