What is your favourite thing about the job?
My favourite thing about the job is obviously the patients. They are always so interesting
and a mine of useful information. The job satisfaction that comes from helping people feel better is really hard to beat.
Any famous people walked through the door? I do remember coming home one evening and telling my husband I had treated a Strangler. It took him a minute to work out it was a member of the pop group, not a murderer!
If you weren’t an osteopath, what would you be? I’ve always wanted to be an osteopath, and still can’t think of anything I would rather do. However, during the Covid epidemic when foreign holidays were curtailed, I did fantasise about being a film location scout. There’s a beautiful world out there, and being paid to explore it seems like a great idea...
Do you see seasonal trends in the injuries?
We tend to be busy throughout the year, but
there are definitely some conditions that present on a seasonal basis. In spring and autumn there is a noticeable influx of gardening injuries, and sports injuries tend to be more prevalent at the beginning of the rugby or cricket season. Good weather means that people are usually more active and possibly more likely to get an injury, whereas bad weather means people stiffen up.
Most unusual injury you’ve treated? Some patients are more memorable than others. One was a Mr Partridge who hurt himself when he fell out of a pear tree...
You have a day off, what do you do? When I’m not working I enjoy rowing at Oundle Town Rowing Club; cycling round the villages with friends, walking and skiing. I’ve also spent a
lot of time watching my sons play rugby and cricket, from Oundle minis up to first team matches at Twickenham.
