We are three-quarters through our 2022/23 lecture programme – third Friday of the month in Barnwell Village Hall – and in the process of choosing next season’s. The range of lectures and lecturers is stunning, as always, so we look forward with anticipation.

At the end of March, pupils from
Nassington School took part in the
launch of the Children’s Trail at St.
Leonard’s Church, Apethorpe, which
our Trails of Discovery volunteer
team has produced. It explores the interesting historical and religious artifacts in the Church, will be posted on our website, and will be available at the Church itself. Our thanks to Rev. Jane Tailby, Vicar of Watersmete Benefice, for supporting the project.
On 22nd April we sponsored the Young Musician of the Year Award at the Oundle Music and Drama Festival Finale Concert which is always an uplifting and enjoyable occasion.
As we move towards post-pandemic normality, we are delighted to resume our trips and visits programme. Our first trip in June will be to the revamped Sutton Hoo exhibition – which SHOULD have been our last trip of 2020!
Our lectures continue to delight and challenge members, and challenged we were in January by Rosalind Whyte’s lecture on

these extraordinary artists.
In March, was our three lecture
Study Day, with lunch, on ‘The Splendours of Mexico, Ancient and Modern’ by Chloe Sayer. Chloe’s scholarship and knowledge were
stunning – and the vegetable and white bean paella, followed by preserved damsons with almond custard and meringue for lunch would have been worth the ticket price on its own!
We have resumed fully live lectures for the summer and, with increasing attendances, the pleasure of socialising before the lectures. Upcoming subjects:
• May ‘Bruegel: Peasants, Proverbs and Landscapes’ by Paula Nuttall
• June ‘David Hockney: A certain generosity of spirit’ by Michael Howard
