CHAIRMAN’S REPORT
I think we can all agree that the colder months are now well and truly on
their way! With the cost of living crisis continuing across the country I would like to take this opportunity to raise awareness of some warm facilities in our town. St James’ Church, the Baptist Church and the Library are keen to welcome you if you are struggling and need somewhere warm to go – there may also be other community facilities available. The churches are
open Tuesdays for coffee mornings and the library is open Tuesday 9am-1pm, Thursday 2-5pm, Friday and Saturday 10am-1pm. As the weather turns let’s ensure we all look out for each other, wrap up warm and stay safe on the roads.
On Wednesday 26th October the council held its first inaugural meeting of its Climate Action working party. As a council we
are committed to increasing the work we
do to reduce the impact we have on the environment. Please look out for future projects and communications regarding our plans – if you want to be involved please get in touch with the office.
On Saturday 29th October we enjoyed an Evening of Music which took place at Thrapston Plaza. Thrapston Town Band performed a fantastic set of British classics and well-known favourites, which included an Abba medley, The Lincolnshire Poacher,
I Vow To Thee My Country
and a moving performance
of God Save The King. The
evening was to raise money
for my chosen charity, The
Haemophilia Society; a fantastic £414.39 was raised. The musical pieces were preluded by some wonderful anecdotes from Thrapston Town Band Musical Director, Nathan Waterman, giving the audience some insight into the background of the music choices and songs. The evening was enjoyed by all and a huge thank you to all who attended for raising such a fantastic amount for The Haemophilia Society.
We have our Christmas Festival on Saturday 26th November. I look forward to seeing many of you at this event after we had to scale back last year due to the inclement weather. At the time of writing this piece the weather forecast is looking ok – so fingers crossed we are full steam ahead this year.
The annual pantomime performance of Little Red Riding Hood is taking place on Saturday 3rd December at 3pm. There will be a bar providing refreshments. All proceeds will go to my charity.
I would like to take the opportunity to wish you all Seasons Greetings and hope you enjoy the holiday season and New Year. Kind regards, Councillor Craig Wheeler Thrapston Chairman and Mayor
