INFANTRY TRAINING CENTRE PRIMARY CARE REHABILITATION FACILITY
The PCRF has had a busy but rewarding year providing high quality exercise rehabilitation to patients at the Infantry Training Centre in Catterick. During this time the PCRF said farewell to Sgt (SI) Charlton, posted to the 1st Battalion, The Mercian Regiment Tidworth and welcomed its newest members Maj Holton; posted in as OC PCRF closely followed by Sgt (SI) Downes who graduated from the JSSERI course in July. The department is now finally operating at full manning levels following the arrival of civilian ERI Sam Higgins in October.
In the past 12 months, exercise rehabilitation has been at the forefront of the PCRF’s priorities developing and delivering a rehabilitation structure in line with the Combat Infanteer’s Course (CIC18) and the revised Ground Close Combat Physical Employment Standards. WO2 (QMSI) McGregor and the PCRF department have developed and implemented outcome measures which replicate test standards that can be adapted to cater for individual needs to ensure the best care is provided and recruits return to training at the appropriate level.
The Team: Sgt (SI) McGrevey, WO2 (QMSI) McGregor, Sgt (SI) Downes, Sgt (SI) Duncan
Cyprus Challenge WO2 (QMSI) McGregor
The PCRF is located within the Laidlaw building amongst other ITC support elements, with this comes significant constraints in terms of available space for lesson delivery. WO2 (QMSI) McGregor’s next priority is to upscale the rehabilitation facility with a dedicated S&C suite in order to enable standardisation and the ability to deliver a higher level of rehabilitation for the future.
On a RAPTC front Sgt (SI) Duncan, the PCRF’s longstanding RAPTC member is due to leave post soon and is currently in his first year of studying the RAPTC funded BSc (Hons) degree in Sport and Exercise Science with Plymouth Marjon University. Outside of our primary clinical roles, ERIs have continued supporting and developing their UK North Sport Secretary roles and were also involved in organising and delivering the Wattbike and indoor rowing competition as part of the UK North’s first Winter Festival of Sport at ITC.
In sport, WO2 (QMSI) McGregor and Sgt McGrevey were part of the ITC team which participated in the Cyprus International 4 Day Challenge finishing 3rd overall team and 3rd overall female. Sgt (SI) Downes completed his first Ironman and is already thinking of his next physical endeavour. WO2 (QMSI) McGregor organised and entered an ITC team into the Three Peak Yacht Race. An endurance event not for the faint-hearted involving teams of five sailing from Barmouth to Fort William to scale the UK’s three highest peaks; Snowden, Scafell and Ben Nevis. Following the team’s success Sgt (SI) Duncan and Sgt (SI) McGrevey have both been given the task of organising and entering an ITC team into the Scottish Islands Peak Race and the Three Peak Yacht Race this year and both are praying for calm waters!
Over the next year, the PCRF will be involved in the working group for CIC 21 project providing injury prevention advice and guidance, updating and restructuring the ITC programme with S&C content in line with the APTS following the infrastructural changes in Anderson and McKay gymnasiums into bespoke S&C facilities.
