Iarrived at 47 Regiment Royal Artillery in January 20 after spending the last two and a half years at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS). The posting was gapped for
approximately three months due to the previous SSI leaving the army. The unit was over the moon that I was coming into the job and obviously I was equally keen to get started.
I was always told at RMAS that when you get to your first unit you will feel like you are juggling plates all the time which I laughed at and said it can’t be that difficult. Funnily enough six weeks into the job and it feels like I am juggling medicine balls as everyone wants something from the SSI! The unit’s main role is flying unmanned air systems in support of the joint force and organic divisional land components. They basically fly drones! With 10 Battery deployed in Cyprus, 57 Battery working in Boscombe Down the remainder of the unit work to support these elements and continue with regimental life.
Since arriving at the unit, the CO has tasked me with deploying to Cyprus for a short period to have a look at what physical development is being done when elements of the unit are deployed. The CO is keen to have a drive on mental resilience and mental wellbeing within the unit which I am looking to support where I can.
I wish I could tell you more on regimental achievements and concurrent activity however being 7 weeks into the job is like being on a rollercoaster. I must say though, I am thoroughly enjoying it and it’s nice to be out of ARITC and working within a unit.
