Ibegan at 22 Royal Engineers in January 2020 and from the moment that I arrived I could see that this was a very busy and professional Unit, technically our Training year with our
affiliated Brigade, 20 Armoured Infantry Brigade – ‘The Iron Fist’, concluded on 31 December 2019. However, the reality is that the training year will extend until May 2020, during this time several of our Armoured Squadrons will validate on Ex PRAIRIE STORM and Ex CERBUS, once the Regiment has been validated it will move to high Readiness on 1 April 2020.
Physical and Mental resilience are the foundations of which this Unit is built upon weather that be in the form of an equipment carry on the area or a Yoga and flexibility session in the Gym hall, it is key to make sure all personnel buy into the training and to make sure all are fully prepared for any task that they are given. To achieve all this, we have been lucky enough to receive a brand-new facility; the new Swinton Bks Gymnasium is up and running providing all personnel with a great area to conduct the APTS as laid down in the units Physical Training Programme, as well as an area to conduct their own personal training. The unit have also been given the green light to receive a refurbishment of our old facility, this will be turned into a top- flight S&C area to facilitate the APTS and the growing Swinton Bks community.
Even with the unit gearing up for high readiness there has still been time to plan and take part in AT and sporting events, with Ex Snow Sapper being conducted in the early part of the year and each Sqn organising a L3 Exped for the later part of the year making sure all personnel receive a well-rounded and unforgettable experience from 22 Royal Engineers.
