HQ Warminster Garrison is a complex environment responsible for the delivery of physical training and testing for Special Weapons School (SWS), snipers,
mortars, machine guns and anti-tanks promotion courses. Reconnaissance and Armoured Tactics Division, armoured cavalry, light cavalry and recce promotion courses. All of this is conducted alongside the primary role of physical development support to Warminster Garrison and various lodger units, including Land Warfare Centre (LWC), Infantry Trials and Development Unit, Collective Training Group (CTG), HQ Small Arms School Corps (SASC), Junior Staff Centre (JSC) and many others.
After 6 months working out of a temporary facility due to asbestos removal, we moved back into the original facility. However, with support of the unit I started a programme of works to keep the temporary building and use it as an external strength and conditioning facility for the various course personnel that we deliver physical training to. This was an exciting project as it allowed me to work with the various contractors in camp, obtain new equipment and project manage the task from start to completion.
On the sporting front I continued my role as a player assistant coach for the Army Senior Football Team. In Apr 19 we played our Inter Services fixtures against the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy. We played the RAF first at Aldershot Town FC beating them 3-0, and the RN at Yeovil Town FC, where we drew 1-1. This ensured the Army won the Inter Services competition for a fourth season in a row.
On 28 Apr 19, I attended the Professional Football Association (PFA) Awards 2019. This was an extreme honour and privilege for me personally receiving an invite to such a high-profile event. The invite has never been extended to Armed Forces
personnel. It was a red-carpet event held at the Grosvenor Hotel in London where we met various footballers including the PFA Player of the Season, Liverpool FC footballer Virgil Van Dijk.
On 9 May 19, we played our final fixture of the Army football season, where we travelled to Jersey to compete in the Southern Counties cup final against the Jersey Bulls. A highly competitive fixture which was decided by penalties, the Army were victorious giving the Army Football Team another clean sweep of trophies.
On 23 Jun 19, I attended the Army FA dinner awards along with the Army Head Coach Maj Sean Birchnall where we received both our Inter Service and Southern Counties trophies from the principal guest Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.
