The Army Foundation College trains over 1300 Junior Soldiers each year, providing the 16 and 17 year olds with military training and education ahead of a career in the British Army. The College runs two different courses. One is approximately 42 weeks and is for those joining the Household Cavalry, Royal Armoured Corps, Royal Artillery, Infantry and Royal Logistic Corps (Drivers). The second course is approximately 21 weeks in duration and is designed for those personnel wishing to join cap badges with longer Initial Trade Training; these are Royal Engineers, Royal Signals, Army Air Corps, Royal Logistic Corps, Royal Army Medical Corps, Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers, Adjutant General’s Corps (Staff and Personnel Support Branch) and the Corps of Army Music. The College receives 2 intakes per year, in September and March.
The College’ vision is to;

During my 3-year assignment at the AFC, I have seen many faces come and go, most notably the 1400 JS (Junior Soldiers) per year that depart the AFC to become future leaders within the Army. It has been a real pleasure to have worked in this amazing facility and having such a significant cohort of RAPTCIs and AAPTIs to work amongst is certainly a real plus.
2019/20 has allowed the new CMS18 to bear fruit, delivering stronger and more robust soldiers to Phase 2 training and onwards into the Field Army. Early statistics show strong performance gains in all areas of the 6/12-month courses and reduced injury rates amongst the JS.
