                                WHAT’S ON
Getting out and about...
Thrapston Community Library will be supporting this year’s Summer Reading Challenge, with this year’s theme being – Ready, Set, Read!
The challenge will start on Saturday July 8th and will run until the end of September.
Children, aged 4-12 years
old, are challenged to read or
listen to 6 books over the summer. These can be physical books or eBooks, Audiobooks or eAudiobooks. They can be library books but they don’t have to be.
Resources will be available in Thrapston Library for the launch and are for children aged 4-12 years old only. They are not suitable for younger children. If children under four years old want to be challenged they can take part in
the Bookstart Bear Club, or this year there
will be a challenge similar to the Summer Reading Challenge and specially formulated for Preschool aged children.
Please remember that you can recycle all of your used dental products at Thrapston Library, the proceeds of which will go back to the library. The collecting bin is always outside the main door during opening hours.
     THRAPSTON PLAZA OPERA AUDITIONS
Sunday 2nd July at 2pm in Thrapston Plaza
Next season TPO are planning to perform two operas. On Sunday 26th November there will be a concert performance of Humperdinck’s well known ‘Hansel and Gretel’ in St James Church.
The main fully staged production will be Donizetti’s ‘The Elixir of Love’ – another favourite in the opera repertoire – on 22nd, 23rd & 24th February 2024.
Audition day is an opportunity to see what local amateur opera-making is all about and to take part in a ‘warm up’ sing-along with present chorus members. More experienced singers will then have the opportunity to audition for the role of their choice.
‘Hansel and Gretel’, first performed 1893 in Weimar, has four principal rôles and three minor rôles with a small chorus at the end.
‘The Elixir of Love’, first performed in
1832 in Milan, is a fast moving romantic comedy which has always been popular in the repertoire. There are four major roles and one smaller role with a lot of chorus singing and dancing throughout! This will be Thrapston Plaza Opera’s 13th annual full production.
Previous titles have included Carmen,
Aida, Madam Butterfly, La Traviata and The Merry Widow. The Company performs with 25 singers on stage and 18 instrumentalist in the orchestra. Extra help backstage with set construction, scenery, props, costume and make up is always welcome. For further details please visit our website: thrapstonplazaopera. com or simply come along to Thrapston Plaza at 2pm on Sunday 2nd July when you will be made most welcome.
