                                   HAVING
A BALL
Spring Charity Ball
In the depths of winter, when we’re still pulling up the drawbridge and spending evenings by the fire, spring can seem a long way off! What a tonic then to be able to look forward to an event which celebrates that most cheerful of seasons, brings people together and raises money for charity: the Oundle Spring Charity Ball on 20th April 2024.
This philosophy is what drives the team behind the ball’s organisation. “We really hope people will support the event and embrace the chance to dress up and have fun, whilst helping generate funds for two very worthy causes: The British Red Cross and The Leprosy Mission,” says Uli Bankart, “With all the conflicts going on across the world and the economic hardships at home, the Red Cross seemed an obvious choice, and The Leprosy Mission does such wonderful work with those who suffer both physical disfigurement and stigmatisation.”
The Queen Victoria Hall (QVH) will be transformed for the night into somewhere rather magical, with spring-themed decorations throughout. In addition to a glass of bubbly on arrival, guests can enjoy a light street food style supper, provided by Stanley Street Caterers, then dance the night away to the sounds of the wonderful Fortissimo Swing Band.
the organisers are confident that they can deliver another memorable event with a hint of glamour and some personal touches – for example, everyone will get their own memento of the evening to take home.
“Quite a few people have said rather wistfully that they remember our pre-Covid balls and wish there could be another, so to some extent the event is back by popular demand! On the 20th April they will get their wish,” says Uli, “So come and join us!”
There has been some wonderful support from local business, for example the task of bringing Spring to QVH is made much easier by the plants and flowers kindly being loaned by The Barn Garden Centre. Over the coming weeks and months there will be various crafting sessions to make some additional floral decorations, and anyone who would like to join in is most welcome. Just get in touch.
